It allows you to get rid of the clutter of USB cables under your desk. This technology gives you true freedom of mobility.

The high-speed wireless data rates give you the power to mover date faster than any other wireless technology. Products from different manufacturers bearing the Certified Wireless USB logo are guaranteed to interoperate.

Stationary, wired USB peripherals such as printers, external drives or cameras can be left connected to a Certified Wireless USB Hub. Simply bringing your notebook PC “within range” re-establishes a high-speed wireless connection. In addition, portable USB devices benefit from the charging capability of the hub. Synchronization occurs once the wireless connection is made.

Turbo Memory

What is Intel Turbo Memory? XGA, WXGA, SXGA+, WXGA+ and WSXGA+ … What is the difference?

Screen is one of the most important components for laptop. Lenovo has about 8 different configurations of screens and 3 different sizes. Here is a list of all 8 configurations –

SVGA (Super Video Graphics Array) - resolution 800 X 600
XGA (Extended Graphics Array) – resolution 1024 X 768
SXGA+ (Supper Extended Graphics Array) – resolution 1400 X 1050
UVGA (Ultra Video Graphics Array) – resolution 1600 X 1200
WXGA (Wide Extended Graphics Array) – resolution 1280 X 800
WXGA+ (Wide Extended Graphics Array) – resolution 1280 X 854
WSXGA+ (Wide Super Extended Graphics Array) – resolution 1680 X 1050

WUXGA (Wide Ultra Video Graphics Array) – resolution 1920 X 1200

I was always asked which one is better? Well, the simple rule is - the higher resolution, the better screen.

Lenovo laptop screen has different sizes of 12, 14 and 15 inches. Beyond that, there are normal screen and wide screen in each size group. Which size/one is better? It all depends on personal preference. One thing need to mention, T61- 8891 and T61- 8897 which all have 14 – inch normal screen are discontinued. If you prefer 14 – inch normal screen, act now, there won’t be a lot of brand new ones in the market for sure.

Discrete vs. Integrated Graphics

Question: I'm looking at purchasing the ThinkPad T61, and I'm confused about Discrete Graohics or Intergrated Graphics card? The Discrete Graphics is kind of expensive. Is it worth it? What differences will I notice?

Intergrated Graphics card means video integrated with the laptop motherboard. Thus, it uses a portion of system memory and relatively slows down the laptop performance.

Discrete Graphics has its own (dedicated) memory to process graphics data. It supports multiple display and TV-out. The dedicated memory for Graphics doesn’t process other data, so the performance is relatively faster.

Why Discrete Graphics costs more? First of all, the manufacture needs to purchase the separate hardware including Graphics chip and memory. Second, the manufacture needs to design an interface to a Discrete Graphics chip to provide the best video performance.

Users will notice the performance difference between Discrete and Integrated chips when running graphics-intensive tasks. For example – video game, graphic design, photo viewing/processing, video editing and online/offline movie/DVD playing.

Lenovo T61 comes with three options of Graphics chips –

Inter X3100 – Integrated Graphics chip
nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M - Discrete Graphic chip with 128 MB dedicated memory
nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M - Discrete Graphic chip with 256 MB dedicated memory

Among all three options, nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M absolutely provides the best performance and is the most expensive one. That’s why T61P are all configured using nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M.

T61 vs T61P

I’m always asked what’s difference between T61 and T61P. If you have the same question, please read…
Lenovo names T61 as their best processors, fastest graphics and durable, reliable data storage. ThinkPad T Series notebooks are powerful and portable. T Series models are thin, light and offer impressive battery life. It is designed for highly mobile users who work in an office, on the road or anywhere in between. With features such as the latest Intel® Centrino® Pro platform, the choice of integrated or discrete graphics, and numerous display choices including a 15.4-inch and a new 14.1-inch widescreen, the ThinkPad T61 is sure to meet most every need — from student to home business to large enterprise.
Among all T61 laptops, ThinkPad T61p is a mobile workstation that features a faster processor, higher-end discrete graphics, and a sharper-resolution display for users who want a laptop that can handle data- or graphics-intensive applications. The ThinkPad T61p is perfect for video and graphics professionals and other power users/fans because of their need of heavily computation. Thinkpad T61p can be 15.4-inch Widescreen (type 6459) or 14.1-inch screen (type 8891). Please notice that T61p doesn’t come with 14.1-inch Widescreen. All T61p have 256MB Nvidia Quadro FX 570M Graphics chip to ensure the best graphic performance.

Why start this blog?

Hi all,

Thank you so much for spending your valuable time and take a look at my blog.

I want to build up a community to share with my customers the technology-based information on laptops and also a place for us to exchange our experience/excitement with our laptops.
